Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) seeks to hire a full-time Senior IT Auditor to work in our Internal Audit department in Lake Forest, Illinois.


The Senior IT Auditor will help ensure the company is accurately reporting its financials by testing IT controls on key financial systems and validating reports used for financial controls. The Senior IT Auditor is responsible for analyzing business processes, identifying technology risks, evaluating the design of IT controls, executing IT audit tests, documenting work papers, reporting on the effectiveness of the IT control environment, and performing data analytics. The Senior IT Auditor will also coordinate activities with co-sourced service providers, external auditors, and management stakeholders.


The Senior IT Auditor’s duties shall include:


  • Serves as project lead or team member on Internal Audit IT compliance initiatives
  • Responsible for project and time management for all aspects of IT audits including execution and documentation
  • Creates organized and complete audit evidence/documentation in a manner consistent with departmental and IIA standards to support conclusions
  • Conducts technology operational audits related to security, business continuity, industrial control networks, etc.
  • Participates in or coordinates risk assessments to identify significant risks and related controls
  • Assists in or leads the development of test steps designed to evaluate adequacy and effectiveness of identified IT general controls, application controls, reports, and system development lifecycles
  • Drafts audit reports with the level of quality necessary for an executive audience
  • Tracks and manages all IT audit issues to completion in a timely manner, including obtaining management responses and ensuring sufficient remediation measures
  • Develops and performs data analytics to support IT audit requirements and special projects
  • Provides training on selected IT topics to the Internal Audit department
  • Communicates and demonstrates professionalism with personnel from various departments and levels through all audit phases
  • Responsible for the identification and recommendation of control gaps, control effectiveness, and audit steps
  • Expected to maintain and strengthen relationships with internal audit customers (up to the VP level), IT Risk Management, and our external auditors.


Minimum requirements:


  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • One year of full-time audit experience in internal audit or public accounting.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology audit activities including the evaluation of SOX general IT controls, application controls, completeness and accuracy of key reports, cybersecurity assessments, and other risk-based IT audits.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and in a deadline-based environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (interacting up to VP level)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% annually (domestic only).
  • Experience requirements may be concurrent.
